“Pinot and Augustine” is a classic, family friendly clown duo, inspired by the golden age of circus, bubbling over with physical comedy, virtuosity, and musical surprises from the sublime to the ridiculous, from melodies on a musical saw to pratfalls and a whoopee cushion.P
Happenstance Theater is an award-winning, professional company committed to devising, producing and touring original, performer-created visual, poetic Theater. With the simplest means – movement, silence, theatrical clown, music, text, physical comedy and beauty – we seek to elevate the moment when the performers and audience meet, to lift the encounter beyond the daily and pedestrian into the realms of dreams, poetry, and art. Meaning is often discovered by happenstance.
Mark Jaster (Pinot) & Sabrina Mandell (Augustine) are Artistic Co-directors of Happenstance Theater. Sabrina Mandell is originally from Nova Scotia. She studied the Lecoq pedagogy with Dody Disanto at the Centre for Movement Theatre before founding Happenstance in 2006. Mark Jaster trained with 20th-century masters of mime Etienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau in addition to serving as teaching assistant to Mr. Marceau in a series of seminars in Michigan. Mark’s long career of solo performances continues alongside his work with Happenstance. Pinot & Augustine is their playful take on the classic European clown duos of the turn of the 19th-20th century.
