While having developed a solid foundation in realism, Skye has begun exploratory ventures into magic realism and surrealism as a means to investigate and communicate increasingly complex meaning to her audience. Her most recent paintings delve into the conceptual and developmental nature of thought and innovation, utilizing cosmic imagery to convey the exchange and subsequent advancement of an idea. This notion of progress presents a common thread throughout Skye’s body of work, as she encourages her viewers to become curious in her subject matter and pursue their own veins of research. The piece “Sewing the Spark (So Sown)” utilizes more androgynous models, as she did not want the piece to read as an interaction between man and woman, but a universal expression of innovation and development; the seated figure hands the standing a star, a spark of an idea, and the standing figure takes that idea and sews (sows) it into her head, completing the feedback cycle.
